Annie Beugel grew up in rural Groningen. The tranquillity, space and orderly arrangement of this vast landscape characterize her photography. Annie makes her images in the landscape. She is fascinated by the changes during the time she is in a landscape. She captures these subtle changes, caused by sun and wind, in different angles. In her studio she combines the pictures in a series.

For her graduation project Mnemonic Landscape Beugel returns to the landscape in Groningen known to her from her childhood. She reduces this landscape to isolated components, such as sky, earth and water, so that changes in time and light become more observable. Her images are abstractions of the landscape. Her photographs are not location specific but have become mnemonics, memory aids, that evoke a particular atmosphere or memories.
